My belief is that to be effective, digital marketing needs a change in mindset so businesses invest sufficient time and budget into continuously\u00a0 optimizing \u2018always-on\u2019 activities which can be used in an integrated way to maximise visibility and conversion through the customer lifecycle.<\/p>\n<h3>What is always-on marketing?<\/h3>\n<h4>Always-on marketing: A working definition<\/h4>\n<blockquote><p><em>Always-on marketing means a planned approach to scheduling and optimizing continuous marketing activities which support customer acquisition and retention throughout the customer lifecycle.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/digital-marketing-strategy\/what-is-digital-marketing\/\">main types of digital marketing<\/a>. Think about these key digital media I define in my <em>Digital Marketing: Strategy and Implementation<\/em> book. The percentage of leaders who optimized individual channels using continuous optimization or structured tests were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Digital media 19%<\/li>\n<li>Digital experiences 14%<\/li>\n<li>Content 22%<\/li>\n<li>Outbound messaging 16%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you find it surprising that digital experiences are not optimized more frequently?<\/p>\n<p>It would be good to see more people move towards evolutionary site design.
