{"id":705,"date":"2009-07-23T15:41:26","date_gmt":"2009-07-23T15:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.davechaffey.com\/blog\/?p=705"},"modified":"2011-02-15T06:40:10","modified_gmt":"2011-02-15T06:40:10","slug":"great-social-media-campaign-example","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/traffic-building-strategy\/offer-and-message-development\/great-social-media-campaign-example\/","title":{"rendered":"Great social media campaign example"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I've always believed that the most engaging, most effective <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davechaffey.com\/Internet-Marketing\/C8-Communications\/E-tools\/Online-PR\/Business-blogging\/how-to-create-business-blogs\">blogs for marketing<\/a> are not CEO blogs, rather they use guest bloggers; either different employees, or better still, customers.<\/p>\n<p>The award winning\u00a0Tourism Ireland Taxi Challenge is another good <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davechaffey.com\/Internet-Marketing\/C8-Communications\/Online-campaign-examples\/Great-interactive-campaign-example\">example social media campaign<\/a> of a customer video blog I featured a couple of \u00a0years ago.<\/p>\n<h2>The Blog Your Way to Antarctica campaign<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogyourwaytoantarctica.com\">Blog Your Way to Antarctica campaign example<\/a> I feature here is similar, but in this case social media is being used effectively to recruit the customer blogger.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-709\" title=\"blog-example1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.davechaffey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/blog-example1.png\" alt=\"blog-example1\" width=\"534\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You may think this is a me too campaign similar to the \"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.islandreefjob.com\/\">Best Job in the World Campaign<\/a>\" , but I think the way of getting customers involved is different in that it focuses more on blogging and encouraging bloggers to link back to the site.<\/p>\n<h2>Campaign results<\/h2>\n<p>A Yahoo search\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/uk.search.yahoo.com\/search;_ylt=A03uv8pxfGhKym4AjP1LBQx.?p=linkdomain:www.blogyourwaytoantarctica.com+-site:www.blogyourwaytoantarctica.com&amp;y=Search&amp;fr=yfp-t-501&amp;fr2=sb-top&amp;rd=r1&amp;sao=1\">linkdomain:www.blogyourwaytoantarctica.com -site:www.blogyourwaytoantarctica.com<\/a> shows nearly 19,000 unique domains linking to the blog site, over half these include the text \"vote for me\"!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-706\" title=\"yahoo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.davechaffey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/yahoo.png\" alt=\"yahoo\" width=\"535\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Campaign success factors<\/h2>\n<p>The essential ingredients of a captivating offer fitting the brand are here, but the key feature is the viral nature of the campaign where competitors use their blogs and social presence on Twitter, Facebook, etc to encourage their contacts to vote for them.<\/p>\n<p>There is good integration with the Quark Expeditions site with links back to the main product areas, but a 301 redirect approach would possibly have been a better approach for SEO.
