Only 19% of North American organizations and 7% of European organizations rate their digital maturity as \u201cAdvanced\u201d when reviewing processes, data integration and technical skills.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-78913\" src=\"http:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-12_07-02-31.png\" alt=\"Digital marketing maturity benchmark\" width=\"525\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-12_07-02-31.png 525w, https:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-12_07-02-31-144x150.png 144w, https:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-12_07-02-31-250x260.png 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Digital maturity definitions from the research shown in the figure are.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Advanced<\/strong>: Data mostly integrated, best practices generally followed, automation common, strong technical skills<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Focused<\/strong>: Data and processes somewhat integrated, automation common, solid and expanding technical skills<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Emergent<\/strong>: Basic data integration, some automation, growing technical capacity<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Nonexistent<\/strong>: Limited data in silos, no automation, low technical capacity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This pattern of a low-level of maturity is similar to that we have seen in the Smart Insights scores of members based on our free\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/managing-digital-marketing\/capability-performance-review\/benchmarking-digital-marketing-capability\/\">benchmarking digital maturity tool on a 5 point scale<\/a>\u00a0which has also shown <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/goal-setting-evaluation\/performance-management\/auditing-your-digital-marketing\/\">low digital maturity overall<\/a>. \u00a0If you're not already a member you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/howgood\/\">score your maturity here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the barriers to digital marketing that need to be managed, these will be familiar to every business.
